In a six-year study at Baylor College in Houston, Texas, antibiotics were studied to learn more about antibiotic resistance (unresponsiveness to treatment) in AOM (Acute Otitis Media). Based on study findings, a certain type of bacteria associated with AOM was found to be susceptible to Cleocin. Other medical literature favors clindamycin in those who have received and failed initial treatments after three days. In case study analysis of an outbreak of AOM due to penicillin-resistant pneumococci in Kentucky, clindamycin (among other nonpenicillin-type drugs) provided relief to 70% of treated patients because of bacterial susceptibility to this antibiotic.
