DESCRIPTION
Doxazosin is an antihypertensive drug (used to lower high blood pressure), which results in vasodilation (widening of veins and arterioles) and decrease in blood pressure. In prostatitis, doxazosin has been found to be quite effective in improving urine flow and decreasing urinary obstruction and symptoms of irritation.
Symptoms of nonbacterial prostatitis should then be reassessed, and the dose should be maintained if treatment has worked. If no effect has been seen, an increase in the dose should be considered. If a patient is already taking blood pressure medications, blood pressure should be monitored when doses of doxazosin are increased. Common side effects associated with doxazosin include dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, constipation, and appetite loss, among others.
