DESCRIPTIONFludrocortisone is used to treat low levels of corticosteroid hormones such as Addison's disease. Florinef acetate has been used with some success to increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with severe hypotension (low blood pressure) that does not respond adequately to other treatments. Most patients can be treated successfully with blood volume expansion or fludrocortisone or both in combination with another drug. Additionally, researchers note that desmopressin acetate and erythropoietin are useful supplementary drugs in patients with symptoms that are more resistant to treatment. It should be noted that a small group of patients remain resistant to all therapeutic modalities.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS
High blood pressure, edema (swelling due to fluid retention), headache, dizziness, acne, rash, bruising, menstrual irregularities, suppression of growth, high glucose levels, adrenal gland suppression, peptic ulcer, muscle weakness, cataracts, sweating, congestive heart failure, seizures.
CAUTIONS
