DESCRIPTION
Lansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that stops the production and release of gastric acid in the stomach, belongs to a class of drugs that block the production of acid by the stomach and are used in GERD and other diseases where the stomach overproduces acid. CAUTIONS

In another trial, a researcher with Baylor University in Texas along with researchers from other U.S. universities examined the effects of lansoprazole and placebo for three months in 20 people with chronic laryngitis. Results from this study demonstrated that six patients (50%) in the this drug group and one patient in the placebo group had a complete response to treatment. These researchers reasoned that lansoprazole should be considered as a first-line treatment for chronic laryngitis.
