A variety of other conditions can affect the musculoskeletal system. Among those that are most common and troublesome are chronic fatigue syndrome, bursitis, and tendinitis.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is persistent fatigue, not due to exertion nor eased by rest, that results in substantial cuts in occupational, educational, social, or personal activities. Further, the syndrome occurs simultaneously with four or more of the following that do not predate the fatigue and have lasted six months or longer: substantial impairment in short-term memory or concentration; sore throat; tender lymph nodes; muscle pain; multi-joint pain without swelling or redness; headaches of a new type, pattern, or severity; unrefreshing sleep; and post-exertional malaise lasting more than 24 hours.

Tendinitis/Bursitis

Bursa are small bags of fluid throughout our bodies at points where muscles and tendons glide over bone. They are designed to decrease friction between surfaces that move in opposite directions. Bursitis is inflammation of bursa that occurs when repetitive movement has been prolonged, caused too much pressure, or a bruise or traumatic injury has occurred. A tendon is a flexible band of tissue that connects muscle to bone, thus enabling movement. When a tendon is inflamed, the action of pulling the muscle becomes irritating and painful, yielding tendinitis.
