Pantoprazole has been studied for the treatment of laryngitis in two clinical trials involving 51 adults.
In these studies, Protonix alone was administered and then given in combination with cisapride (a prokinetic drug).
In the study using a high-dose of pantoprazole with cisapride in 22 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-related laryngitis, patients had significant reductions in all laryngitis symptoms.
In another study of 29 patients with persistent hoarseness and voice disorders, Protonix was given once daily for six weeks. After six weeks of treatment, significant reductions in hoarseness, heartburn, sore throat, and indigestion were noticed. Moreover, after three months of treatment, these effects remained.
