PRIMIDONE AND ESSENTIAL TREMOR
The efficacy of primidone for essential tremor has been shown in a number of studies. Primidone has similar or even more efficacy than propranolol (a beta-blocker drug), with complete tremor suppression in a greater proportion of patients. It is most effective for hand tremor, and its efficacy for head and voice tremor are variable. After one year of treatment, about 10% to 15% of responders develop tolerance to the drug's effects.

In a short-term study, Mysoline was less tolerated than beta-blockers. Nearly one third of patients had short-term side effects (nausea, dizziness, etc.) with the drug that occurred in the morning and after the first nighttime dose and lasted up to four days. Only 12% of those patients experiencing side effects stopped treatment.

PRIMIDONE IN THE PREVENTION OF FEBRILE SEIZURE
Researchers in Japan conducted a study of 196 children with febrile convulsions. Sixty nine were placed on phenobarbital, twice per day and 32 on primidone twice a day. The remaining 95 children were given sodium valproate. Recurrence of febrile convulsions during one year was not different among these five groups.
